WHAT WE DO

Our committees engage in work across three categories: Resident and Community Services, Public Policy Impact, and Community Development Initiatives. Read below to learn more about this work and how we partner with and support other community groups and events in East Atlanta.

RESIDENT & COMMUNITY SERVICES

EACA provides various services that benefit the individuals, groups, and businesses in the East Atlanta community.

  • East Atlanta Parents Network (EAPN)

    The EAPN creates friendships, connects families and grows our community. The goal of the network is to help local parents meet, share experiences, discuss issues, and organize parent-and child-focused events. Events range from playgroups and school tours to visiting local attractions.

  • Neighbor in Need

    Neighbor in Need provides emergency home repairs for low-income and elderly homeowners in East Atlanta, allowing them to stay safe and comfortable in their homes. Neighbor in Need is funded 100% through charitable contributions, grants, and fundraising events. Initiatives include an Annual Poker Tournament, Community Block Party, Fall Fundraising Gala, and more.

PUBLIC POLICY IMPACT

Advocacy encompasses various activities that influence elected decision-makers. EACA focuses on policy related to economic development, transportation, zoning, and land use.

  • Land Use & Zoning Committee (LUZ)

    The LUZ Committee functions as EACA’s liaison for development-related activities within the community borders, seeking to improve the quality of the East Atlanta community’s built environment and quality of life. The Committee guides EACA’s positions on real estate development applications and special projects.

  • Transportation Committee

    The Transportation Committee is a platform for East Atlanta residents to share ideas and concerns around making our transportation corridors and inner streets safer and more accessible, focusing on people walking and rolling (in wheelchairs, on bikes and scooters, and pushing strollers) and prioritizing public transit. The committee also acts as the community liaison to local and state government officials responsible for maintaining citizen transportation initiatives.

  • Public Safety Committee

    The Public Safety Committee works to enhance public safety in East Atlanta by partnering with city and county leadership and police departments to address safety challenges and drive long-term solutions. The committee also engaged members of the community to serve as “public safety liaisons” for their neighborhood and help educate the community on important safety topics.

  • Parks & Greenspace Committee

    The Parks and Greenspace Committee aims to create a more pleasing environment within our community through the association, cooperation, and coordination of individuals, organizations, and businesses by promoting and supporting the Beautification, Enhancement, Preservation, and Rehabilitation campaign within East Atlanta and its green spaces.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

EACA’s community development programs empower local individuals, groups and businesses with the skills they need to effect change in the community.

  • Education Committee

    The mission of the Education Committee is to inform residents about the public school options in our zone; to provide a channel of communication and engagement between the community and the school system; and to advocate for the educational needs of families.

  • Arts & Culture Committee

    The Arts & Culture Committee’s mission is to encourage the use of art to address ongoing visual concerns and promote artistic and cultural activities that foster social connection and growth. The Committee serves as EACA’s liaison to existing cultural events such as B*ATL, The Strut, and holiday events.

  • Community Outreach Committee

    The Community Outreach Committee’s purpose is to build a sense of community in East Atlanta and to support neighbors in times of need and times of success. Some of the Committee’s key projects include planning social events and outreach events; organizing volunteers to fill the Eastside food and clothes closet; and overseeing our partnership with Intown Cares to provide dedicated social support to the unhoused.

  • Membership Committee

    The Membership Committee promotes and sells memberships, enrolls new members, maintains the membership list, assists the treasurer with membership issues, and sells EACA yard signs.

  • Fundraising Committee

    EACA is an entirely community-funded organization, and the Fundraising Committee oversees neighborhood initiatives and events dedicated to funding the organization’s operations and programs.

  • Communications Committee

    The Communications Committee is dedicated to providing information to the community in ways that are easily accessible. We strive to create an inclusive community by onboarding new residents, creating a dialogue, and cultivating sources for information, including the website, email newsletter, print mail, print materials, and social media.
