The East Atlanta Beer Festival began in 2004 as a fundraiser for various projects in the East Atlanta community, and as a way to bring people into the area who were unaware of how wonderful it is. Today, EABF is far and away the single largest fundraising event for community projects in and around East Atlanta, providing more than $30,000 to EACA projects in 2012 alone. Other grantees in recent years have included East Atlanta Kids’ Club, Burgess Peterson Academy, Historic Sylvester Cemetery, East Atlanta Farmer’s Market, Friends of East Atlanta Library, Martha Brown United Methodist Church, Branan Towers Retirement Community, Battle of Atlanta Commemoration Organization, East Atlanta Business Association, and East Lake YMCA.

As a direct result of EABF funds, East Atlanta is a more pleasant, clean, and safe place to live, play, raise children, operate a business, and own a home. For the last ten years, year after year, EABF has brought hundreds of first time visitors to East Atlanta. These people come from all over metro Atlanta and Georgia, and from more than twenty different states. In short, anyone who receives this email has benefitted from EABF, even if you are not personally a fan of beer festivals or a beer lover.

We want these benefits to continue, but we need your help to make it so. In 2004, EABF was one of only three beer festivals in Metro Atlanta. Today, there is a beer festival somewhere in metro Atlanta nearly every weekend from April through October. This competition increases every year, and most of the new festivals are run by professional promoters for sophisticated for-profit entities, who have found this to be a rather lucrative business. In contrast, the East Atlanta Beer Festival is now, and shall remain, a festival run solely by community volunteers. All profits – after we pay for stuff like fencing, port-a-potties and beer – are returned to this local community by The East Atlanta Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. This distinguishes EABF from other festivals, some of which claim to donate an unspecified “portion” to charities, without disclosing what percentage of their profits that is. This competition has, and will continue, to impact our ticket sales.

In order for EABF to continue generating substantial funds for the wonderful projects the East Atlanta community does so well, we need your support in several specific areas:

1. Come to the 10th Annual East Atlanta Beer Festival. If you haven’t been in a few years, you might not recognize it. We moved to Brownwood Park in 2011, and in 2012 we expanded the fest site to include nearly 7 acres of forest and grassy meadow, with plenty of room for people to bring chairs and blankets. The food and entertainment get better every year, and the variety of beer is amazing. Use promo code “EACA” for a $5 discount.

2. Encourage your friends, family members, co-workers, and acquaintances to come to the Festival. Wandering around the park under the huge old trees, trying new beers, and listening to live music is a great way to catch up with your spouse, your sibling, your old boss, or that friend who you haven’t seen since they moved OTP.

3. Help us promote the festival on Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook, you can use the “invite,” “share,” or “like” functions to help us raise awareness of the Festival. On Twitter, use @eabf or #beerbearcrush.

4. Let us know if you have access to marketing tools that could assist the East Atlanta Beer Festival in meeting its ticket sales goal. Remember, all donations to the East Atlanta Foundation are tax-deductible!

Street and Park closures:

From morning to evening on Saturday, May 18th, the streets adjacent to Brownwood Park will be closed to parking, including Joseph Avenue, Portland Avenue, Gresham Avenue, Brownwood Avenue and Pendleton Street. The developed, north side of Brownwood Park will be accessible only to those with Beer Fest tickets. The undeveloped, south side of the Park will be open and accessible via Ormewood Avenue. Immediately impacted neighbors will receive the details of how these closures will be implemented.

To contact the Festival, email info@eastatlantabeerfest.com

On Saturday, March 9th from 12pm to 10pm, Living Walls is taking art to the streets of the East Atlanta Village. The Living Walls EAV Art Stroll is being held in partnership with the East Atlanta Community Association and the East Atlanta Business Association, and is a free public event with something for kids, families and bar-goers alike.

The stroll will be the culmination of the Living Walls “Concepts Volume 9”, a year-long project for the nationally famed organization. This Concepts will feature the artists : Christopher Derek Bruno, Bridget Quinn, and Molly Rose Freeman. “We want to challenge artists to activate public space with contemporary projects that create discussion and insight on the visual landscape.” says Living Walls’ Programming Director,TrevorJones. This Living Walls “Concepts” is an experiment that will focus on the exploration and geometry in the arts produced in large scale and in an engaging way to the public realm.

The EAV Art Stroll will include artist talks from two of the “Concepts” artists, two new murals, an installation series at empty phone-booths, and a guided tour of the three existing Living Walls murals in the village. In addition, Atlanta’s yarn bomb group “the Knitterati” will have knit and crochet pieces installed throughout the Village for the event.

Midway Pub will host an arts and craft market from 12pm-6pm which will extend across the street into the East Atlanta Farmer’s Market and include an array of local artist’s work for sale. The East Atlanta Parent’s Network will host a kid’s craft corner from 12-3pm in the East Atlanta Farmer’s Market. This kid-friendly event means parents can browse local arts and crafts while their children have a good time working on art projects.

East Atlanta bars and restaurants will be providing specials for the event, and entertainment will be happening at venues throughout the Village. At dusk there will be a film screening of the Living Walls Concepts Volume 9 documentary at the Farmer’s Market area. Celebrate the many perspectives of public space and street art during the Living Walls EAV Art Stroll! Please join us March 9 for this exciting opportunity to engage people of all ages in an event filled with art.
