East Atlanta Kids Club is a nonprofit mentoring and enrichment program for disadvantaged children ages 7 to 13 who live in and near East Atlanta.
Founded in 1998 by neighborhood volunteers, the program now engages about 100 children and 150 adult volunteers on a year-round basis in recreational, educational and creative activities.
The club currently meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (4:30 pm to 6:30 pm) and on Saturday mornings (10:30 am to 12:30 pm) at Brownwood Park Recreation Center at 602 Brownwood Avenue.
We do art projects, learn computer skills, do reading and math exercises, and play a variety of games inside the center. Outside, we play basketball, kickball, and engage in other fun team-building activities. Once or twice a month, the club goes on field trips to museums, theaters, nature parks, and other recreational and cultural venues.
The club also has a one-on-one mentoring program, The Friendship Connection, that matches adults with kids for one or more years.
EAKC is a non-profit, charitable organization with federal tax-exempt status. Membership in the club is free.
