Beautification CommitteeThe Beautification Committee shall be responsible for all matters pertaining to neighborhood parks and neighborhood beautification, except when these duties are delegated to another committee. This year's committee is working in partnership with the Parks Committee.
2004 Parks and Beautification PlanMission: Create a visually preferred environment to work, live and play.
Committee Partners:

2004 Objectives:
• Reduce trash and graffiti by 50% by 9/30
• Identify significantly decaying and abandoned/empty commercial and residential property by 4/30 and provide to Public Safety Committee to inform owners of codes and next steps if not resolved by 9/30
• Develop long range greenspace plan by 6/30 and implement program by 9/30
• Provide support to Streetscape Committee to ensure completion by 12/31/05
• Prepare list of historic public assets by 3/31 and select 3 priority sites to rehab by 12/31
Strategies:
1. Educate residents, property owners and visitors about existing laws requiring the external maintenance of public and private property
2. Enforce existing laws requiring the external maintenance of public and private property
3. Integrate with existing Atlanta and East Atlanta initiatives to improve public space (e.g. Streetscape Comm., Trees Atlanta, Historic Landmark Rehab, etc.)
Tactics:
Education
• Understand existing codes/ordinances/laws governing trash and graffiti
• Develop marketing campaign to educate community on issues, importance to respect community, codes enforcing no trash and graffiti, and consequences for littering and spreading graffiti
• Demonstrate pride in community by executing two East Atlanta Clean-Up Days.
Enforcement
• Subdivide East Atlanta into zones and identify Zone Leaders who will “own” areas of East Atlanta and assist with execution of plan by:
1. Identifying areas requiring improvement
2. Providing support with P&B Events (e.g. clean-up days, tree plantings)
Integration with other EACA efforts
Understand existing projects underway (e.g. Streetscape, Greenspace Acquisition, Historic Asset Restoration – Sylvester Cemetery)
Next Steps:
1. Review plan with EACA Committee Chairs and finalize 2004 objectives, strategies and tactics - DONE
2. Present plan at EACA and identify Zone Leaders - DONE
3. Obtain East Atlanta map and split into zones – 3/15
4. Finalize topline budget and request funding – 3/31
5. Co-Chairmans to develop calendar, conduct necessary team meetings and communicate progress during monthly EACA meetings and in Porch Press.
