EACA Meeting - October, 2002

October EACA Minutes

By Carolyn West

The EACA meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm on October 8, 2002. President Ken Rose announced that NPU election would take place at 7:30 pm at the EACA meeting on November 12, 2002. Charles McCullough gave guidelines and regulations for voting in NPU elections.

The President welcomed new neighbors and offered the following information items:
Four people are needed for the nominations committee for EACA officers for 2003. Susan Elliott, Suzanne Burns and Henry Bryant volunteered. A fourth volunteer is needed. Christmas Dinner suggestions (food and location) are encouraged. Vicki Leonard volunteered to coordinate food but needs at least one other person to help. Bring suggestions to Vicki at November meeting. The Zone 6 Recognition Awards will be held November 10, 2002 at 4:00 pm.

Police Zone 6

Major Banda mentioned the upcoming Recognition Awards. He also mentioned that of the warrants issued in Zone 6, ¾ were in the East Atlanta area (drugs, etc.). Attendees were encouraged to report addresses for prostitution and drug activity to the zone office. Also be mindful of the upcoming holidays and take precaution such as letting the zone office know if you will be going out of town.

At this time the president recognized political candidates Larry Johnson and Leane Levitan. Ms. Levitan invited everyone to attend breakfast on 10/12 at the Good News Café at 8:30 am.

Fire Department

Captain Gish mentioned the following items: This is fire prevention week. House numbers need to be bigger to be more easily seen. A testing company is sending smoke through the sewer system and smoke may show up in homes through unusual places. Homeowner or occupant should be notified before testing begins. Thanks to all who helped with fire engine dedication during the East Atlanta Strut. Mention was made of the streets that are difficult for engines to get through. One side of these named streets may be closed to parking.

Brownwood Park Renovations

Update given by Ms. Sushma Dersch, City of Atlanta, and Ms. Joyce Taylor, Brownwood Park Director. Project is 80% complete on original contract. Shower use was of some concern to residents. The shower will be locked at all times and only available for use by persons who have paid to use the exercise facilities. The key must be signed out by Brownwood staff. Concern was expressed over the lights being out at the pavilion. Mrs. Dersch will investigate. For other issues or concerns please call the main recreation number (404-817-6766) at City Hall.

Any suggestions, please contact Suzanne. Thirteen bike racks have been installed. Some finishing and repairing is being done on a couple of racks.

September minutes and treasurer’s report were approved.

Comments from Steve Carr

Steve reported that 74% of the people want full sewer separation. Greenways are now the issue. 100% separation with greenways preferred. Call the mayor, state representatives and any other elected official to voice support for full sewer separation.
