7:07 P.M.  Meeting Called to Order

Opening Comments - Myron Polster
•  Beerfest will be May 31st – need volunteers to work in the EACA food booth.

East Atlanta Strut – Laird Ruth
• The East Atlanta Strut is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2008. The physical location will be expanded this year. Meetings will be held the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 at Branan Towers. Looking for volunteers. To get involved come to a monthly meeting or email maryyetterhotmail.com

East Atlanta Business Association (EABA) - Marc Takacs, President
•  Handed out EAV packets to new residents at meeting (stickers, menus, local information).
•  EABA will have booth at Atlanta Home Show this weekend at the World Congress Center.
•  EABA hosting a free networking happy hour event Wednesday, March 19th at Blue Frog from 4:30-7:30 – encouraging all home-based business people to come and meet each other.

East Atlanta Security Patrol - Myron Polster
• Accepting new members – March 31 is the deadline to join for new quarter. See patrol.eaca.net or email securitypatroleaca.net for more info.

Crime Report –Ann Carpenter
•  Reviewed February 2008 crime report – down 20% overall from last month.  Burglaries and auto thefts are both down, but are still above last year’s rates.  Unsecured vehicles are the biggest targets.
•  GPS theft from autos a new problem.

Member Issues - Myron Polster
•  February Minutes approved by unanimous voice vote.
•  Henry Bryant volunteered to fill the Porch Press board opening for EACA.  Approved by unanimous member voice vote.
•  Discussed the EACA Board’s 2008 Goals – invited feedback.
•  Reviewed the revised 2008 Budget – secured second and final approval by unanimous hand vote 22-0-0 (first vote held at February meeting).  Copy of budget is posted on www.eaca.net and in the EACA Newsletter.
•  If interested in the $2,000 of EACA grant money available this year for your organization, see the EACA website for an application and guidelines.  First phase of grants will be open for application in April with first $1000 of grant money awarded in June.

Police Report – Lt.  Pautsch
•  Vehicle and foot chase by day patrol led to arrest of 3 juveniles for car theft.  The perpetrators are believed to be responsible for numerous other burglaries.
•  Two other car burglary perpetrators were arrested.

Land Use and Zoning - Andrew Walter
•  567 Flat Shoals Avenue – soon to open as bakery – applying for parking variance.  Approved 22-0-0.
•  731 Stokeswood Avenue – application for extension of single family house in line with footprint of existing house.  Approved 23-0-0.
•  Faith and Moreland (technically Ormewood Park) – apartment development seeking variance to build 5 stories (currently not allowed because of proximity to residential).  Approved 17-1-2.  Vote is to show support and not officially recognized by NPU since development is outside of EACA borders
•  South Moreland Avenue LCI Study – Final draft of the plan will be presented Thursday March 20, 6:30 Mt Nebo Baptist Church.

Public Safety - Ed Gilgor
•  529 Flat Shoals Avenue – new bar “529” opening, seeking liquor license.  Approved by unanimous voice vote
•  1314 Glenwood Avenue – The Holy Taco applying for change in agent on their liquor license.  Approved by unanimous voice vote.
•  “Ice House” in former Echo Lounge location attempting to open, but parking is limited.  Ed is working with them trying to get additional spaces nearby in a vacant Georgia Power easement lot as well as discussing with them the hiring of parking cop(s) for concerts; easing neighborhood noise concerns, and addressing potential concert-related litter.
•  606 Flat Shoals (Paradise Living personal care facility) – Natalyn Archibong met with the facility owner and city officials about neighborhood concerns with the facility.  Owner has committed to getting rid of the residents who were violating the rules and working harder to fix the problems with the facility.

NPU-W - Ed Gilgor
•  EMS funding (Emergency Medial Services - Ambulance service).
• Master traffic calming plan in process of being developed. If interested in helping or running this initiative contact Ed at Edward.gilgorgmail.com.

Announcements – Myron Polster
•  Farmer’s Market “Spring Fling” fundraiser to be held Friday March 21.
•  The Farmer’s Market (which starts weekly May 8) will be relocating this year to the parking lot of ACE Hardware.
•  Encouraged all to attend the final Moreland LCI meeting if you haven’t participated already to get your input into the future of Moreland Avenue.
•  City holding comprehensive city transportation plan hearings this month—see the EACA newsletter for more.

Announcements – Henry Bryant
•  The Friends of the Library “Read and Feed” fundraiser will be held April 26th—looking for volunteers to cook from cookbooks in library.  Call Henry - 404-377-6148.
•  Porch Press editor will be leaving this summer – looking for new editor.  If interested, contact Henry.
•  This year’s B*ATL set for July 19.  If interested in helping organize any of the village activities contact Glen Satell.
