Ed Gilgor, Crime Reporting:
• The 3/12/07 gun incident in Brownwood Park was proven unrelated to gang activity. Apparently, two young men were fighting for the attention of a female, which led one of them to pull out a sawed-off shotgun. Police were immediately summoned to the scene, all suspects were caught, and it is now being determined if the gun was fired. Police are looking for witnesses, so call Major Propes if you have additional info about the incident (404) 371-5003.
• Crime was up slightly this February as compared to last—check out the statistics using the link in the EACA Newsletter.

Introduction of new neighbors.
Police Report, Major Propes:
• A suspect has been apprehended in the recent Bound to Be Read Books Robbery.
• Auto thefts are trending up city-wide. In particular older Hondas seem to be a target (95 total cars stolen since first of year, 17 in our district (most in Highlands)), though Dodge owners have also been frequent victims.
• Three of the four young men apprehended in the Brownwood Park gun incident were McNair High students. Shots were heard but no witnesses have come forward, though the men were caught and the weapon was confiscated. Major Propes reassured attendees of park safety with these statistics: of the 113 stops in the park since 2005 when Propes started, 95 were routine patrol stops, rather than suspected crime stops. She reiterated that they patrol the park on foot frequently.
• Ed Gilgor interjected at the end of Propes report to spur people to participate in the public safety process by advocating for more police and more judicial support when it comes to repeat offenders. Email Ed at publicsafetyeaca.net for more info on how to get involved.
