Opening Comments - Austin Dickson

Local Food Initiative – Robby Astrove, Trees Atlanta
-Incredible Edible Food Sale

Crime report - Jenny Murray
-December 2009 & YTD crime trends
-up 92% compared to the prior month
-Majority of increase burg residential and burg commercial
-There was not one area that got the highest concentration
-2008 vs. 2009 we are down 13%
-Auto theft up 3%
-Burglary down 6%
-Commercial Burglary down 21%
-Auto larceny down 15%
-Larceny other down 35%
-Pedestrian robbery down 27% 32 incident ytd
-Residential robbery 5 ytd
-Commercial robbery 7 ytd

Police Report – APD Zone 6, Sergeant Pace
-Major Dalton did work in Zone 6 and has experience here
-The zone has committed an assigned car for this specific area

Public Safety – Myron Polster
-Major Dalton is our new major. We hope to introduce him next month. His email address and cell phone number are: jdaltonatlantaga.gov 404-274-2102 -We were at a meeting with our new interim police chief and the mayor
-We raised our concerns about the proficiency of our 911 service
-911 call reports will be on the police web going forward
-90% calls answered within 20 sec
-95% within 30 sec
-593 Gresham Gerald Williams who has been locked up for a few weeks.  If you have had any encounters with him, look at the website and send notes to the DA’s office requesting that they look into his activities
-One of his cohorts is up for pre-trial this Thursday, Cedric Walker.  Any support this -Thursday at 9:00 am at the DeKalb court house would be appreciated
-EASP has 20 new members with the new year
-We would appreciate your participation
-New number for EASP – software and hardware improvements
-A woman called last night to report a man had followed her home and pulled into the driveway next to hers.  Don’t hesitate to call.  In that situation it may have been a good idea to call but we are able to talk to the regular beat officers to talk to them and avert crime.  It is our goal to assist them with information.

Police Report – APD Zone 6, Sergeant Pace
-Major Dalton did work in Zone 6 and has experience here.
-The zone has committed an assigned car for this specific area
-Crime Suppression team will go about and make impact in certain areas with specific crimes
-There was a murder on Glenwood – there has not been an arrest made on it.  It has not been tied to any other crimes in the area. Tracy Clark was killed 30 yrs.  Jan 9th was the night of the murder.  The homicide group is handling the investigation.  Gunshots were heard and the dispatcher had said many calls were received on it.

Beautification – Ted Hitch
- We did a holiday decoration contest Ace and Joes sponsored.  The entries were nominated by neighbors.  1514 VanEpps won the contest.
-11 people volunteered on Sunday to clean up.  We picked up a dozen bags of trash, spread some mulch, and got it looking good to start 2010.
-We will start some different times like Sunday afternoons this year.
-Start outreach in the community to help seniors who can’t take care of their own yards and get them to freshen up their own yards.  You can send suggestions in.
-A NeighborWoods tree planting in partnership with Trees Atlanta this fall
-There will be a featured Yard of the Month this year.  We will utilize Porch Press and Joes Coffee Shop to show special gardens in the neighborhood.

LEAP – Jelena Crawford
-Anyone who is a parent in the neighborhood please get the word out
-We are having a kickoff play group this sat 10-1 all ages are welcome
-We will be doing a lot of activities this year and please sign up if you would like to get involved

Land Use & Zoning – Andrew Walter
-792 & 798 Stokeswood Ave Stream Buffer Variance application to construct 2 single family houses
-Sent to NPU this month
-Stream Buffers are one of the most important protections to absorb storm water on the roads and keeps the biological activity of the surrounding woods functioning correctly
-Its not regulatory its administrative
-You should require storm water mitigation

Henry Bryant - Motion that we oppose the construction of these houses due to the grade and potential for erosion and downstream effects and the fact that at least one of the lots are that the house has moved forward.

NPU-W Report – Ed Gilgor
-1st Tuesday of each month for
-APD changeover.  Why did we have a new major?  We are investigating as to why they did what they did.
Jenny Murray – the mayor assured us that he would have answers
-The beltline subarea 4 is beginning the process…as we continue building the large bike trail
-the tunnel Commissioner Oxidine wanted to get a tunnel build.  The odds of them doing anything – the mayor announced he was against it and GDOT says that means that does not necessarily mean its off the table you will hear more about that in the future
-Demonstration of Strike Master II Pro – it is a stop smash and grab device – they sell it at ACE and it is one of the less expensive things you can do ($100)

Overview of 2010 Board Retreat, December Minutes and Proposed 2010 Budget – Austin Dickson
-I have copies of the most recent beltline information if you would like to receive it
-Burrel Ellis is very interested in our neighborhoods.  He’s hosting 12 budget meetings in 12 different neighborhoods.  Our neighborhood meeting is at the East Lake YMCA Jan 23rd
-There is a park meeting this Thursday Jan 14 please see me for details afterward
-Move to approve December minutes

-Treasurers report for the month of December
-Would like us to think about partnerships…we are a small group on paper, but we are a large group in terms of networks and
-Steve Norman and Russel Bagget Grant Park – president are here and that shows that our neighborhoods are working and communicating together
-Fundraising is important this year.  If you have any ideas for fundraising, please feel free to let me know.
-Memberships are $10
-We will inventory our discounts – it gives us voting privileges and discounts
-Ways to win a prize…there is a gift card underneath your set if you win

-Graveyard networking after this.
-Ratify decision to appoint 3 board members to the porch press.
