Meeting called to order at 7:31 pm by Dennis Madsen, EACA President. New officers introduced: Jennifer Murray - Vice-President, Treasurer - Kevin Lynch, Howard Fore - Secretary. One new neighbor in attendance

Atlanta Fire Department
Contrary to the report in the Dec 2004 meeting, the Ealy Taxi property at Metropolitan and Flat Shoals has not been acquired as the site for the new fire station.
Smoke detectors and blood pressure tests are available at the fire station.

Atlanta Police Department
Major Banda promoted to Deputy Chief. Thanked EACA for its support
Major E. R. Propes is new head of Zone 6 - epropesatlantapd.org No news on Joe's Coffee robbery
APD personnel stressed importance of details in reporting crime. Warrants can say “concerned citizen” rather than name. Make records of valuable belongings, Zone 6 has engraver available to mark assets.
Question about abandonded buildings and vehicles: call owner about the building, 911 about any vagrants or illegal activity.

Valencia Hudson, Public Safety liason for Atlanta councilwoman Natyln Archibong
TNT Food Mart complaint finally going to court. Address on building was incorrect, was address conflict with Atlanta and Dekalb County. Owner facing 15 charges.

Friends of Beltline
Nonprofit in support of Beltline, 22 mile mixed use (pedestrian, trolley, bike) ring around intown Atlanta, see http://www.beltline.org for more information.
Has support of Atlanta Planning Commisssion
Working with Trust for Public Land, MARTA, and Atlanta to buy land
closest access on Glenwood at Glenwood Connector
Next step is passing of Tax Allocation District with City to aid in buying land
Asking for endorsement of concept from neighborhood associations

Salsa Havana Bistro

Opening at Ormewood and Moreland, similar to current location at Collier Rd. and Howell Mill.
Currently open in evenings 5-10pm, soon adding daytime hours 11am - 10pm
Plans to return soon with liquor license application

Friends of East Atlanta, Henry Bryant
New library on schedule, opening in early summer 2005
One month needed to move in, probably period with no operating library
new branch manager Ken Thompson, reception Jan. 29, 3 pm at current library
Some books will be retired from current library, FEAL will get first try to sell the retired books.

Treasurer's Report
Request from East Atlanta Kid's Club for $69.39 for Christmas Decorations, passed by voice vote
2005 budget, needs two votes, January and February, no questions or concerns noted by members in attendance, 1st vote passed 28-0-1

Still has eight remaining trees, will raffle at February 2005 EACA meeting
Now has office space in EAV, behind Chance's Gallery on Flat Shoals
Streetscape moving along, will announce a meeting later with Atlanta Public Works Department
Looking into economic development grant for old Kroger on Moreland
Very preliminary discussions about possible acquisition of TNT Food Mart property via CDBG

Rezoning application for lot between Flat Shoals and Fayetteville Road beside I-20 - presentation by applicants, no letters from neighbors due to alleged reluctance to sign, took names and addresses for confirmation, vote with conditions passed 26-0-1

1111 Moreland (gas station at Moreland and Confederate Ave.) - Transferring to new owner. Passed 15-8-1
560 Gresham Ave (former Pasta Thyme). New mexican restaurant managed by Alan Raines (Iris). Passed 26-0-0.
