Opening Comments - Myron Polster

East Atlanta Strut – Mary Yetter
•  The East Atlanta Strut is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2008.  The physical location will be expanded this year to an as yet undetermined location.  Meetings will be held the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30.  Money raised at this year’s Strut will be awarded through a competitive grant process.  You don’t have to be a 501(C)(3) to apply.  Info will be posted at www.eaca.net and in the Porch Press.

Friends of the East Atlanta Library - Henry Bryant
•  Friends of East Atlanta Library are hosting a “Love your Library” wine and cheese happy hour on Wednesday, February 13 from 6-8pm.  Free for Friends of East Atlanta Library members, nominal donation for non-members.

Traffic Study Petition - Robert Meehan
•  Called for signatures on petition for City to conduct traffic calming study on Gresham Avenue south of Ormewood.

Trader's May Close – Shawn Ergle
•  Reported that because of the economic downturn Trader’s may have to close their East Atlanta Village location.  Calling for all residents to support local businesses.  Looking for investors, partners, etc. to prevent closing.

East Atlanta Business Association (EABA) - Marc Takacs, President
•  Handed out EAV packets to new residents at meeting (stickers, menus, local information).
•  EABA will have booth at Atlanta Home Show in March.
•  The EACA discount program (w/your EACA membership card) being better implemented so use your cards in the East Atlanta village stores for freebies and discounts—see www.eaca.net for discount information.
• Would like to encourage local home-based businesses to join EABA. Contact: Marc_takacshotmail.com

Kingfisher Academy – Dan Johnson
•  Invited residents to check out Kingfisher, an independent, non-profit private school serving 63 children from preschool-8th grade; located in education building at Martha Brown Church.  Open houses to be held 2/13, 2/27, and 3/12 from 4-6pm and include tours.  Go to www.kingfisheracademy.org for more info.

Crime Report -Jennifer Murray
•  Went over January 2008 crime summary.  As with year end 2007, burglaries are still up as are auto larcenies. Pedestrian robberies up as well.  Trend seems to be city wide.
•  A/C units still being stolen—Call 911 to report any suspicious activity in your area.

Police Report –Major Propes
•  Introduced Officer Griffin who works 8-4 shift in EAV
•  Donyel Eason arrested for armed robberies - suspected of more than one of the recent robberies in the area.  Officers Griffin, Bell, and Upton chased him down and prevented him from using his gun.
•  Detailed several recent arrests that were connected with multiple crimes (Blue jean Bandits, Flat screen bandits, shed robberies, etc)
•  Noted that trend in auto theft focuses on Jeep Cherokees and Dodge Durangos.

Member Issues - Myron Polster
•  January Minutes – approved by unanimous voice vote
•  Presented the EACA Board’s 2008 Goals.  See www.eaca.net or EACA Newsletter for details.
•  Presented the 2008 Budget – garnered first approval unanimous by voice vote (second vote will be held at March meeting).  Copy of preliminary budget to be posted on www.eaca.net and in EACA Newsletter.
•  2008 Membership dues due ($10 per household) can be paid via Paypal or at meeting.

7:45 P.M.  Special Reports
Education – Myron Polster
•  Linking Education and Parents (LEAP) meeting 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm at Burgess Peterson Elementary (used to be 3rd Tuesday).
•  Wants to get another local person on the Burgess School Committee in case current principal retires and new search begins.

ANS - Myron Polster
•  ANS is a proposed partnership between the Neighborhood Charter Elementary School and the nearby Atlanta Charter Middle School.  The partnership could take East Atlanta out of the primary zone for middle school OR could potentially include East Atlanta in primary zone for both schools.  Stay tuned for more information.

Land Use and Zoning - Andrew Walter
•  No projects up for vote this week
•  770 Shadowridge – current plan didn’t recognize full extent of the stream; will be walking site with an engineer so plans can be resolved.
• 390 Maynard Terrace – Scott West presented plans for these higher density eco-friendly but budget conscious homes which will be LEED or earth craft or energy star certified. Email swestwestarchitecture.com for more information on the proposed project. •  South Moreland Avenue LCI Study -- Kevin Lynch (on Southstar Board) explained that the Livable Communities Study (LCI) is nearing the end of the planning process.  See www.southstarcdc.org to download plans and make comments.

Natalyn Archibong
•  Discussed the personal care home at 606 Flat Shoals.  Due to problems and seeming negligence and/or abuse taking place in the home she is investigating the permitting to see if there are any conditions attached that might aid in improving or closing the home.
•  Senior programs being held Saturday at Drew Elementary from 11-2.

NPU-W - Ed Gilgor
•  Next meeting February 27th.
• Ed trying to set up meeting w/Miss Taylor, the Director of Human Resources for the State, who oversees personal care homes. Email Edward.gilgorgmail.com for more information. •  Trying to find out why Fire Station construction seems delayed. (Natalyn says groundbreaking should be scheduled soon.)

Public Safety - Ed Gilgor
•  Liquor license from gas station on corner of Confederate and Moreland: Applicant signed good neighbor agreement and met with Public Safety Committee - approved by voice vote.
• Asking for assistance in getting Dekalb County to pay attention to the arrestees Major Propes mentioned (getting emails sent to prosecutors, etc to get longer sentences). Email Edward.gilgorgmail.com for more information or to get involved.

East Atlanta Security Patrol - Myron Polster
