December 11, 2007 EACA Meeting

7:00 P.M.  Meeting Called to Order

Opening Comments - Myron Polster, President

2008 Elections – Henry Bryant
•  Loyal Berger nominated for Treasurer.
•  Remaining officers nominated for an additional term:
Myron Polster – President
Heath Turner – Vice President
Jane Smith – Secretary
•  All nominees accepted by acclamation.

Membership Issues – Myron Polster
•  November minutes approved by unanimous voice vote.
•  January 1 is the deadline to sign-up for the new quarter of the East Atlanta Security Patrol--for more see Security Patrol link at eaca.net.

Beautification - Mellissa Dobraski –
•  “Festive EAV” Home Decorating Contest winners to be announced on 12/15 at 6:30 at Martha Brown United Methodist Church followed by family movie night.

Crime Report – Jen Murray
• Discussed the increase in neighborhood crime (up 38% YTD). Email publicsafetyeaca.net to contact Jen with questions, and see the EACA Newsletter for access to crime statistics. •  Jen will be meeting with Ed Gilgor (Public Safety), Myron Polster, and Major Propes at year end to work on why the trend is increasing and what can be done about it.

Police Report – Sergeant Schierbaum
•  Discussed recent pedestrian robberies some of which involved handguns (between 7:30-10:30 in the evening, all victims were walking alone).  Reminded us that burglaries usually rise around the holidays, and lately many of the perpetrators have been juveniles.
•  Encouraged neighbors to call 911 if they witness suspicious activity, and residents to walk in numbers when possible.
•  Using “bait cars” to catch car thieves.  Recent “Blue Light Blitz” along Moreland caught over 30 violators.

Land Use and Zoning - Andy Schneggenburger
•  1374 May Avenue – limited side yard setbacks for proposed new construction on 25 foot lot.  Vote was 36-0 to deny the variance.
•  390 Maynard Terrace – rezoning request to do a 7-unit EarthCraft development.  In discussion phase with applicant on what type of zoning should be requested (R4-B or PDH).
•  Faith and Moreland – rezoning request at consolidated parcel along Moreland for 5-story 220-unit apartment building with future retail space on ground floor—in discussion stage.

Public Safety - Ed Gilgor
•  Blue Frog (new owner) – liquor license request to change agent.  Approved by unanimous voice vote.
•  The Glenwood – liquor license request for new, non-smoking expansion plus lower-level event space.  Approved by unanimous voice vote.

NPU-W - Ed Gilgor
•  Meeting to be held on December 19th at 7:30 at Martha Brown United Methodist Church.

8:00 P.M.   Meeting adjourned to potluck Holiday celebration.
